Water Temple

Floor 3F-Starting Off
Remove the Iron Boots and float to the surface. Hookshot over to the central building. First, you must take passage to the east, on the bottom floor.

Floor 1F-The East Passage
Put the Iron Boots back on and walk through the east passage. There, Princess Ruto, your fiancee, waits for you. She will lecture you about making her wait for seven long years. Then she will tell you that there are three places in the temple that you can change the water level and she will show you the first one. Stand in the middle of the room and take off the Iron Boots. When you arrive at the surface, a Triforce crest is on the wall to your right and a door is ahead of you. Get out of the water and open the door.

The Spike Room
As soon as you enter this room, you will see four spherical balls with razor sharp spikes coming out of them. The easy way to kill them is to lock on to them and keep moving. If you stay at a distance and the spikes will retract. Use your Hookshot or sword to kill them. After you defeat all four of the spikes, a large treasure chest will appear with the map. Leave the room and stand right up to the Triforce crest and play Zelda's Lullaby. This will lower the water to the first floor.

The Torch Room
Jump down and you will see a door with bars preventing you from entering. Two unlit torches are on either side of the door. A flaming torch sits in the middle of the room. To open the door, you must light both torches. The only problem....one may go out before you get the other lit. You can either use your bow and arrow and shoot and arrow through the flame to the unlit torch or you can use Din's Fire. When both are lit, the bars lift, allowing you to enter the room.

The Shell Blade Room
In this room, you must kill some Shell Blades. This can be tough. Lock on to them one at a time and when they open their mouths, either Hookshot them or hit them with an arrow. After you kill them all, a chest holding a small key appears. Now head back out to the central building.

The West Passage
Head over to the west passage and push the crescent block until it drops down into the passage below. Put the Iron Boots on and sink into this passage. Make your way to the other end of the passage and take off the Iron Boots to float up. Hit the crystal to make a column of water rise. Use the water as a bridge to the other side of the room. If you fall, use your Hookshot to pull yourself back up. In the next room, you will see a stone serpent underneath the water. Jump into the water and the strong current will drag you around. When you are above the tail of the serpent, put the Iron Boots on. You must be on the tail...try again if you aren't! From there, you should be able to see a crystal switch in the serpents mouth. You will also see a Hookshot target in the niche. Hit the switch with the Hookshot and quickly pull yourself up into the niche. Kill the Shell Blades with your Hookshot or...if your life energy is fairly high, let yourself get hit a few times and get to the other side of the gate before it lowers. From here, take the Iron Boots off and float to the surface. Grab the small key from the chest and head all the way back to the crescent block. Use the Hookshot to pull yourself back up.

The South Passage
The floor at the end of the south passage can be bombed. Set a bomb on the fissure to reveal another passageway. Use the Iron Boots to sink into this passage, defeat the Shell Blade with your Hookshot, and float up at the other end. Hit the switch on the small platform. This raises the raises the water, the dragon head, and the platform. Hookshot up to the ledge and all you will see is a gate. Kill the two Blue Tektites. Stand next to the gate and charge your sword up until it is glowing red. Release a spinning slash which triggers the switch in behind the gate. Grab the Gold Skulltula! Head all the way back to the central building now.

The Center Building
Head to the south side of the center building and jump up on the small block and unlock the door. Use your Hookshot to pull yourself up to the next level. There, you will find the second Triforce crest. Play Zelda's Lullaby to raise the water. When the water rises, it carries a large block with it. Use the Iron Boots and you will find that the block revealed another tunnel.

Floor B1-Spike Trap Room
Hit the crystal switch with your Hookshot. This will open a gate and release many Spikes and Shell Blades. Remember, for the spikes, stay at a distance and they will wait to be killed. When they are all dead, a gate in the back right corner will open. Stand below the gate and take the Iron Boots off to float up. Grab the small key from the chest here.

Floor 2F-The East Room
Leave the center building and Hookshot over to the platform with two pots on it. Go through the passage and Hookshot over the sharp stones. Stand as close as you can to the edge and over to the side of the small platform. Target the closest Hookshot target to the ledge and pull yourself up.

Floor 3F-The Compass Room
The treasure holding the compass is being shielded by water. You must hit the switch on the other side of the room to lower the water. You have about 1 second to open the chest once the water is lowered. Stand on the right side of the chest and hit the switch on the other side of the room with an arrow. Quickly open the chest and get the compass!

Floor 1F and 2F
Make your way back to Floor 1F and enter the room where you found Princess Ruto. Take the Iron Boots off and float up. Bomb the crack in the wall and get another small key from the chest. Head back to the center building and use the key to open a door on the small platform to the west.

Floor 2F-Water Column (West Side)
When you enter this room, a small column of water is flowing in the middle of the room. Stand on the water and hit the crystal switch with your Hookshot or an arrow. The water will rise and carry you to Floor 3F. Get off of the water column before it lowers.

Floor 3F-East Side Corridor
Leave the room and you will discover the third Triforce crest. Stand in front and play Zelda's Lullaby. This will raise the water to its highest level. Now that the water level is as high as possible, you can get to the east corridor! Put the Iron Boots on and go down the floor 2F. When you go inside the east corridor, pull the crescent back as far as you can. Now head back to the west side. Climb on the small platform and unlock the door.

Cascading Falls Room
Walk forward a little, when you are close enough tp lock on to the two Keese, kill them with your Hookshot or bow. Jump or slide down to the platform below you. When this platform is at its lowest, jump to the platform on your right. Use the Hookshot targets to pull yourself up one platform at a time, to the very top. Unlock the door with your last small key.

Dragon Head Room
This can be a tough puzzle to figure out. A crystal switch lies in the middle of the room, along with a couple of Blue Tektites. First, hit the switch once with your Hookshot or bow. Second, Use the Hookshot to pull yourself over to the dragon head statue closest to you. Move to the other side of the statue and then, hit the switch again. Go over the next gap and climb over the statue. Hit the switch a third time and kill the two Tektites before going any further, don't fall into the water! Hookshot over to the last dragon head and hit the switch again. Get on the head and hit the switch a final time. Once you are at the top, you will see a Hookshot target on the ceiling, two Blue Tektites, a Like-Like, and some sharp stones. Use your bow to kill the tektites and the Like-Like. Once they're dead, Hookshot over and go through the door.

Dark Link
This may be the toughest sub-boss you'll face! When you enter this room, a nice reflection is seen in the ice. All is calm until run past the dead tree and turn around. When you turn around, you will see Dark Link! This is your shadow. As you know, your shadow does whatever you do, with Dark Link, it's the same thing. Slash your sword at him as much as you want....you won't hit him! There are two ways to beat this guy. One, use the Megaton Hammer. Two, charge up your sword until it is glowing red, release a spin attack on Dark Link. Since he cannot perform magic, he cannot copy this move! It's takes awhile to beat him but once you do, you'll be rewarded well! Leave through the door to the north and open the treasure chest. Inside, you'll find the Longshot! This is an upgrade to the Hookshot and it goes twice as far! Congratulations...better save your game. Play the Song of Time to move the time block and open up a tunnel.

Whirlpool Trouble
Now, this can be very hard or very easy. I found it easier to jump in and swim quickly by pressing "B". As a matter of fact, I made it through all the whirlpools with no trouble by swimming! Put the Iron Boots on and you will fall into a long, winding passageway. Whirlpools are scattered throughout the passage. You must avoid these or you'll end up at the starting point of this passageway with one full heart of your energy gone! Now, there are 2 ways to do this. First, I prefer not to wear the Iron Boots and I swim through and hit the "B" button to swim faster against the current. I made it through all whirlpools within 15 seconds doing this. The second, use the Iron Boots and walk underwater past each of the whirlpools...BE CAREFUL! You decide which method you want to try. The first few whirlpools are fairly easy to avoid. Near the end, a small platform has some pots on it. This is where you must get to. Carefully, make your way to the platform and take the Iron Boots off. Stock up on arrows from the pots and use the Hookshot target on the ceiling to pull yourself over to the next platform. From there, an iron gate blocks your exit. Use an arrow to hit the eye on the wall and raise the gate. Quickly, target the small chest and Longshot over before the gate closes!

Floor 2F-South Passage
Get onto Floor 2F of the center building and position yourself across from the south passage. When you have the Hookshot target in sight, hit the eye on the wall with an arrow and quickly Longshot over before the gate closes. Go through the tunnel until you find the crescent block, push it as far as possible. When it is as far back as possible, go in the south passage and get the small key from the chest. From there, exit through the north passage. Longshot up and go to Floor 1F.

Sharp Stone Gap
Head through the north passage on Floor 1F and Longshot over the stones. Sink into the water with the Iron Boots and head to the other side of the passage. At the other end, float to the surface and Longshot up to the ledge. Unlock the door here.

Blue Tektite Room
In this room, the water current is strong and there are six Blue Tektites in the water. Kill them with your bow or take the risk of being hit a few times. The other danger here is the boulders which roll through the water. Carefully, make your way to the other side. Go through the door there and stop. Believe me....you're almost done!

Flying Stinger Room
Have your sword ready before moving any further. As soon as you walk forward, about 7 or 8 stingers will fly out of the water and attack you! Kill them as fast as possible. When they are all dead, jump down to the platform on your right. The switch under the water will raise the water to let you out of here but it must be held down. Bomb the southeast corner of the wall and you will find a crescent block. Pull it as far as you can. Now what? Go to the other corner and bomb the wall there too! Go through and push the crescent block. Finally, after pushing and pulling, the block will drop onto the switch and raise the water level. Head out through the west side.

Water Column Bridge Room
A large gap is in the middle of this room. On the other side, two Blue Tektites and a door. Kill the tektites with your bow before continuing on. Hit the switch to your right and three water columns will rise for a limited time. Jump across uses the columns as a bridge and go into the door before the bars lower.

Boulder's Path Corridor
When you enter this room, a boulder rolls by every 10 seconds or so. Put the Iron Boots on and sink into the passage to your right (just after a boulder rolls by). Kill the Shell Blade and float up. Use the final small key to unlock the last door! Inside, open the tacky colored chest to find the Boss Key!

The Final Steps
Head to the south side and the central area and Longshot up to Floor 2F. Play Zelda's Lullaby to raise the water halfway. Head out onto the ledge and into the west passage. Ride the column of water to Floor 3F. Exit the room and play Zelda's Lullaby to raise the water to its highest level. Now that the water is at its highest, the dragon head statue, to the north, is raised and the Hookshot target is visible! Longshot over and break the pots to find two red fairies. Either touch one and catch the other in a bottle or catch both. Enter the door to see your final test.

Sloped Razor Trap Room
Three razor traps are sliding back and forth on a slope. If you turn while walking up, you'll slide back down. Choose a side and as soon as the trap hits the wall and heads back, start walking forward. Don't move the stick! When you get to the top, use the Boss Key to open the door.

Giant Aquatic Amoeba:Morpha
When you enter the Boss arena, Navi informs you that the water is not normal. Jump to one of the four platforms in the middle of the room. Morpha will form and show his face....er...arms.....whatever! He has two attacks, One, he will try to grab you with and watery arm. This will take some energy away but I find it really neat the way he swings you through the air. Try it once if you have enough life! Anyway, the second attack, Morpha's nucleus will come out of the water and try to hit you. The easiest way to defeat him is to either hit the nucleus with your sword when it comes out of the water...or...Lock on to his nucleus and pull it out of the water to attack. (This is a little harder since the nucleus is always moving) After seven hits, with the jump attack it would be three or four, Morpha will die! Most of the water will drain in the room. Grab the Heart Container and step into the light....Beam me up Scotty! You will be transported to the Sacred Realm where Ruto, the Sage of Water, gives you the Water Medallion and thanks you. Next, you will be dropped off on an island in Lake Hylia where Shiek will speak with you and ask if Ruto wanted to thank him. He talks to Link and then disappears...what else is new? The water has been returned to Lake Hylia too! Stand on the small platform behind you and shoot an arrow into the sun. The Fire Arrow will drop to the small platform ahead. Swim out and get it. Now, head to Kakariko Village.
