Ice Cavern

The Ice Cavern is not the largest dungeon but it is easy to get turned around and lose your way. The main thing to watch out for here is the large, sharp icicles which fall from the ceiling.

Freezard Room
When you enter into the first room, you will see some ice statues that are blowing freezing cold air. If you are hit by the cold air, you will be frozen in time. Hit the buttons rapidly to get out of it quicker. There are many ways to kill these Freezards, you can use Din's Fire and melt them, Hookshot them to pull yourself over and hit them once, or, you can chop them into icecubes with your sword. Climb up the ledge to get into the next room.

Ice Blade Room
When you enter this room, you will a large blade spinning around the room. Move in the same direction as the blade and pick up the three Silver Rupees that are sitting out in the open. The fourth Silver Rupee is sitting behind a couple of stalagmites to the left of where you entered. You can only get the last two Silver Rupees by jumping off of the platform where the bars prevent you from exploring any further. When you collect all six, the bars will rise.

Ice City
As you enter into this next passage, kill the Freezard and avoid the Blade Traps. Continue down the passage until you come to a large room. Here, you will acquire the map and some Blue Fire. Freezards protect the icy ground and some platforms and Ice Keese fly through the air. Kill the Ice Keese when they come at you! Make your way up the first platform and defeat the Freezard. If you need some life energy, grab the three recovery hearts on the small platform. Go up to the Blue Flame and get two or three bottles of it. Believe me, you'll need it! Kill the second Freezard just ahead and pour a bottle of the Blue Fire on the red ice covering the treasure chest. The red ice will melt allowing you to obtain the map from the chest. Refill the bottle with Blue Fire and head back to the Ice Blade room. Melt the wall of red ice in the southeast corner of the room. Break the stalagmites with your sword to get through the passage. In this room, another brazier of Blue Fire sits directly ahead of you, a Piece of Heart is covered with red ice to your left and the treasure chest with the compass lies to your left. When you have both items in here, refill your bottles with more Blue Fire. Head back to the Ice Blade room and melt the other wall of red ice. This is the second last room of this dungeon. In this room, a block of ice sits slightly to your left and there are bottomless pits in each corner. Kill the Ice Keese before trying to get the Silver Rupees. Use the large block of ice to gather all the rupees. Once you collect all the Rupees and fill up on Blue Fire, push the block into one of the corners. When the new block comes up, push it east and then south. This will allow you to climb up and leave for the final battle. Play the Song of Time to get the red rupees in the air. In the final passage, kill the Freezard and melt the wall of red ice. Enter the door and a White Wolfos will rise from the ground. Lock on and block its attacks with your shield. Attack it when its guard is down or when its back is facing you. A chest will appear when the White Wolfos is dead, open it up to acquire the Iron Boots! These boots will allow you to walk underwater without floating. Link will turn to see Shiek! He will inform you that he saved Princess Ruto from under the ice. He will teach you the Serenade of Water which will warp you to Lake Hylia. Equip the boots and sink into the water behind the chest. As soon as you go through the door, take the boots off so you don't drown! Exit to the south and go back to King Zora. Melt the red ice around him and talk to him. He will thank you and present you with the Zora Tunic! This tunic allows Link to stay underwater for unlimited time. Play the Serenade of Water to warp to Lake Hylia. You may be shocked to see that Lake Hylia is nearly empty. Equip the Iron Boots and the Zora Tunic. Drop into water that is left and once you are at the bottom, use your Hookshot to hit the crystal switch above you and open the door to the Water Temple. Enter the Water Temple.
